Bring your machine to a hardware store or repair shop. Or do it yourself with instructions and a kit ($10 to $35) from mowertuneup.com. |

North American Association of Environmental Education
NAAEE Mission
The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) is a network of professionals, students, and volunteers working in the field of environmental education throughout North America and in over 55 countries around the world. Since 1971, the Association has promoted environmental education and supported the work of environmental educators. There are many environmental interest groups, and many organizations dedicated to improving education. NAAEE uniquely combines and integrates both of these perspectives, and takes a cooperative, nonconfrontational, scientifically-balanced approach to promoting education about environmental issues.
NAAEE is made up of people who have thought seriously about how people become literate concerning environmental issues. NAAEE members believe education must go beyond consciousness-raising about these issues. It must prepare people to think together about the difficult decisions they have to make concerning environmental stewardship, and to work together to improve, and try to solve, environmental problems.
NAAEE recognizes the need for a coherent body of information about environmental issues. Its members also recognize that information and analysis are only part of an effective education program. To be truly effective, this body of knowledge must be integrated into all aspects of the curriculum and into all types of educating institutions for the widest array of audiences.
In order to translate theory into practice and to provide support for environmental education and educators, NAAEE offers a variety of programs and activities. These include NAAEE's Annual Conference, NAAEE publications, and EE-Link.

Connecting Outdoor Instruction to the Illinois Learning Standards
Connecting Outdoor Instruction to the Illinois Teaching Standards
This set of more than 30 scientific investigations are great for getting kids to do science. Many of these also help kids understand and appreciate nature. Some of the investigations are focused on environmental issues such as air quality.
What's Here: Online projects that allow students to, collaboratively or independently, conduct scientific investigations in their schoolyards and classrooms, and then submit their collected data using an online form. All submitted data is automatically entered into an online spreadsheet that can be instantly viewed and/or edited at any time. It can then be downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet and manipulated to allow students to examine the data in a variety of ways. NOTE: Instructions are provided to explain how data can be manipulated in Excel. Student comments and communication about their experiences are encouraged.

Tree House Wildlife Center near Brighton IL
This completely volunteer-run wildlife rescue operation is rather impressive. They take in birds, turtles, and mammals to rehabilitate them and return to their original location if possible.
Committed volunteers are always needed and as well as monetary donations. Volunteer staff can bring animals out to schools and other gatherings for a small fee, but birds are not flown overhead due to the high cost of insurance. No website yet. Send contributions to:
TreeHouse Wildlife Center, RR1, Box 125E, Brighton, IL 62012. 618-372-8092.
